Currently at Escapees Rainbow’s End RV Park in Livingston, Texas:
Just a real quick update to share some big news, everyone! We are now the excited owners of a 2017 Grand Design Reflection 303RLS 5th Wheel! Her name is Lizzy Too, and she’s a beautiful travel trailer that just can’t wait to move into.
We closed on the deal yesterday (Tuesday), but the seller will continue to live in the trailer until the 18th to give her time to get her things packed up and moved out. To respect her privacy, I’m not going to share any photos of the inside of the rig until we start to move in, but stay tuned for the reveal next week!
We did have the rig professionally inspected over the weekend, and there were no big surprises in the report. There were only a few, very minor dings on the report, nothing that a little squirt of Dicor won’t fix. I just have to say a big “Thanks, again!” to the seller for being so helpful and cooperative through this whole process. The inspection took about five hours, during which time she had to be out of the rig, sitting outside in her lawn chair. Her positive attitude has taken a lot of the stress out of a very complicated logistical challenge, so THANK YOU, again, PW!!
In the week while we’re waiting to move into the rig, we have some important things to take care of. We’ve ordered some nerf bars (similar to running boards) to be installed on Alberta (our new F-250 tow vehicle) to make it easier to climb in and out of. Hopefully those will be installed today. Tomorrow, we will be having the big fifth wheel hitch installed in the truck so we can be set to tow.
As far as our current rig goes, we have an appointment for Monday, December 23, to deliver her to PPL Motor Homes in Houston, where she will be appraised and then listed for sale on consignment. Overall she’s been a great rig–she’s never left us stranded anywhere, and we’ve been on some amazing adventures in her. This rig was never intended for fulltime living, but she’s held up amazingly well, and we will always have fond memories of our time with her. Love you, Lizzy!
We’re not sure exactly how long it will take to wrap up our business here in Livingston, since we have to get the registration and title squared away. The seller had a loan on the rig that she paid off yesterday, so she’ll have to wait until she gets the title before she can send it to us, which the bank told her could take up to six weeks. But I’m going to talk to the tax office and/or the DMV today to see if there’s anything we can do to speed up the process of getting her legally registered so we can leave here and head back out West. We are scheduled to be in Carlsbad, New Mexico on January 18, 2020 for the Escapees Lint-Picking Hangout in the caves at Carlsbad Caverns–sure don’t want to miss that!!
There is so much to learn about the truck, the hitch, and the new rig. We need to get comfortable with the auto-leveling system. We’ll have to remember to climb on the roof and sweep off the tops of the slides after we park under trees. We’ve already learned that we’ll be parking the truck with the big boys out in the South 40 when we go to Walmart. And the first time we actually hook up the rig and tow it, we will both be nervous wrecks. But it’s all part of the process, and if all those other people can do it, so can we.
So that’s our quick update for today. Things are falling into place beautifully, and we’re so happy and grateful for all the help and advice that we’ve received from friends and well-wishers.
